Peroxiredoxin Q (PrxQ)

Peroxiredoxin Q (PrxQ) is a homolog of the bacterial bacterioferritin comigratory protein and found only in oxygenic photosynthetic organisms such as cyanobacteria and plant chloroplasts. There are two PrxQ paralogs in Synechocystis 6803, one in the cytoplasm (PrxQ1) and the second one in the thylakoid lumen (PrxQ2). Both of these are important hubs in the RCN. Our studies indicate that PrxQ2 limits oxidative damage by peroxides (H2O2), presumably produced during photosynthetic oxygen production in the thylakoid lumen.
